When to Replace Your Dishwasher

Posted on January 10, 2012 By tmaberry (Edit) 1 Comment

In previous posts, we’ve discussed how to tell when your microwave or refrigerator needs replacing. But what about the dishwasher?

The average lifespan of a dishwasher:

12 years

When to replace:

  • If it doesn’t drain properly
  • If it doesn’t heat up properly
  • If it’s clogged
  • If it’s leaking

What to look for in a new dishwasher:

  • Energy Star compliance
  • Finish
  • Hi-tech features that are convenient and easy to use

How to make it last:

  • Wash only when you have a full load
  • Be sure to clear dishes of excess food to prevent clogging
  • Test the hardness/softness of your water… soft water works better for dishwashing
